- If you want people to believe that Poppy Mtn. is a family festival, why are all the pictures of the crowd in the photo galleries are of people holding a beer can? What about a memorial page of Scott Bowen? He loved Bluegrass Music and the festival. I am sure his family would appreciate it.
- I'M NOT SURE WHAT PICTURES YOU ARE LOOKING AT BECAUSE MOST OF THE CROWD PICS I HAVE SEEN THERE ARE NO BEERS. THE PICTURES YOU ARE REFERRING TO ARE OF THE POST SHOW JAMS UP ON THE HILL.
- A memorial page for Scott Bowen is a good idea. Call me at 606-784-2277 or by e-mail to discuss how we could best design the page. We try our best to keep beer cans and bottles out of the stage area. We ask everyone to cover the cans or bottles to help keep from offending the ones that do not drink. I hope you will call or e-mail to discuss this matter. Thank You
- I don't have any interest my self in getting involved in Poppy Mtn. Someone just told me to go to this web site and I might change my mind about going there. After seeing the pictures I believe what I heard about Poppy Mtn. being a party place. I have nothing against anyone going there it is just not the place for me. As far as Scott Bowen, I don't know him either. I don't know many people in the area of Poppy Mtn. I just heard what happened to the young man and knew if it was my son I would appreciate a memorial page. Someone told me the young man really looked forward to going there every year. I hope for your continued success, but it is not the place for me.Good Luck to you all.
- Just sitting back and reading the notes on this page have made me a little chagrined about the idea. I've been going to Poppy for the past 5 years and yes, there is a lot of drinking that goes on. Then again, if you've just heard "word of mouth" about the whole festival then how do you really know??
There are ways to stay away from the drinking and parting!! 1. don't go to the ridge after the show. 2. if the people camping next to you have beer cans for fly catchers, chances are they will be drinkers, don't camp next to them. you can get moved. 3. if you hear about a party that night, don't go to it! Poppy Mountain definatly has things for everyone to do. I know from first hand experience my 75 year old grandmother went to poppy mountain last year and she had a ball. never once was she disturbed with the party. You've wrote on here about this not being a family festival but I honestly think that some of your outrage is because there is no memorial page for Scott. My last intension was to write hateful to you (whoever you are) but if you go to a bluegrass festival I guarantee that you will find drinking, any festival, banned drinking for not, I promise you will find it, and as for poppy mountain it is no different!! Thanks for your time, and again, I mean no intensional wordly harm toward you!
- If there is hostile people like the one who wrote the last note, I definitely don't want to go there. I am not the author of any of the previous notes.
- I don't want to get a lot of stuff started on here (again) but all that I am saying is that you should go to Poppy Mountain because honestly if I was to go by word of mouth on what I've heard about poppy then I would never go, but I would have missed out on 5 years of nothing but fun!! It never gets old at poppy. yes, sometimes by the end of the week you'll get to where you want to go home, but then again, I personally get like that at every festival that lasts as long as poppy!!
again, I just think that you should try poppy for yourself, you might like it!
- i agree w/ amanda i don't care where you go. if it is music festival related i guarentee u there will be drinking. i for one do not drink and i have been goig there for 7 yrs and i love it.. there are plenty of places to get away from the drinking.. my dad is 71 yrs old and he loves every minute of it.. the only thing i see wrong with poppy is the line-ups are getting smaller every yr... marty rabon 3 times/ gold wing 3 times/ dave evans 3 times melvin goins 2 or 3 times / come on marty you can do better maybe you should have tried to have keep poppy tim i am sure you could have paid him what ever.. your sure not spending it on bands.. oh well see ya in september and happy poppy..
- I agree on the line-up!! Also, I loved to watch , and hear from, Poppy Tim. It sure is a shame that he left. Now as for all the negative comments--I do not drink, but I love to go to Poppy. It may be a party, but it is so relaxing for me. I look forward to it each year and schedule my vacation time to go there. I do not like the helicopter. It landed right near our camp site, which we have been at for 4 years. It was dusty and very noisy. I think that it was just another way to make money. It was not bluegrass related. I also think that the picture guy could go up opn the hill more and take pictures. We have 4-wheelers, but we do not ride crazy. It is just a fun, nice festival. See ya all soon
- I don't think you can go to a Festival where no one is drinking. Unless it's a little city park fest or something. Anyway, I've Never been to a real Music Festival where nobody drinks alcohol. I didn't see any alcohol related problems at Poppy Mountain. I was not disturbed by any of the Post Party Pickers either :.)
My band came and played the Showcase stage last year at Poppy Mtn. This year I'm bringin' my youngen' (Almost 3 years old), my Mom, Step Dad and a bunch of other friends and family members Too!! I would not hesitate to bring my Family To Poppy Mountain. Poppy Mountain is HUGE!! If you've never been there then you can't even possibly imagine just how big!! You can find a very private and quiet place if thats what you're looking for. Just stay clear of Jammin' Ridge. Thats where all Die Hard Pickers get together and make music in to the wee hours of the morning. This usually draws a few folks around and it can get kind of loud. Most folks who camp in this area are there for a reason. TO PICK TIL YOUR FINGERS BLEED! Just Ask at the gate and or ask folks that direct traffic where to go. I'm sure that they would be happy to help you out. Poppy is great for folks of all ages!! Theres always something to do!! Don't Knock It Til you Try It.
- Karen, I'm the "picture guy" and if I've not covered the festival well enough for you I'm sorry. I try my best to get photos of the entire mountain. This upcoming year I will be concentrating more on crowds, campers and people than on bands. You can only take so many shots of bands! Last year I shot 3,500 photos on Poppy Mountain and you're the first to complain that I didn't cover the festival well enough.
As for the person that won't get off the case of drinking on Poppy Mountain, I get the idea that no matter what anyone says about Poppy that "unknown" person won't say anything positive about Poppy! Unfortunately there are people out there that are never happy. It sounds like to me the person has never even been there!!! If that's the case, I would appreciate them not coming here to complain and put the festival down based on "what they've heard". It's just not fair, and it's not why this forum is here. Please go elsewhere if you're just going to complain. I'm not an employee of Marty's, and he doesn't pay me to do this or anything else I do for Poppy Mountain, but I can tell you if you have constructive complaints and conserns about the festival call Marty or the gang and I'm sure they'd help you out to the best of thier ability. But unless you talk it over with them and try to help make Poppy Mountain better, don't come here mouthing off! Thanks to all! Happy Poppy!

- I have been to Poppy Mtn. and in broad daylight. I couldn't get through for the young teenagers carrying beer cans not getting out of the way. It is a sad thing. What about the young children left at the barn unsupervised, because their parents were off partying somewhere else? Strangers having to take care of them. Family Festival, I don't think so.
- this was going to be are first time at poppy mountain but your coments done
scared me off. hope those of you that enjoy poppy keep having a good time.
- obviously you were not planned on coming to poppy then, cause if you were you would not change ur whole plan just by some comment someone made up and couldn't put there name to... kids left unattended at the barn....i doubt it, yea maybe 15 year olds but come on now...it is campping and bluegrassers are a family...so i say to anyonme out there who is sceptical of the festivle come and check it out for your self...i went for the first time last year all the way from the cheesehead state and i had a ball, and left with a handful of amazing life long friends so i think poppy is a family festivel and i hope it is around when i have a family cause they will come right along with me!!!
